Description:

The goals for our Volley-Up League are to promote better overall skill development, participation, meaningful competition, and most importantly to have FUN!

This is a 4 v 4 volleyball league for players of all ability levels, with some modifications to make the game more enjoyable for each child.

ALL standard volleyball rules apply with the following modifications:

Rally Ball (3 ball) Sequence:

a) The game follows a sequence of three rallies (served ball, tossed ball 1, and tossed ball 2).

1st rally – introduced by the server.

2nd rally – introduced by a tossed ball directed to the RECEIVING team ·

3rd rally – introduced by a tossed ball directed to the SERVING team

b) The service alternates between teams after EACH three-ball sequence.

c) A team must rotate and introduce a new server (if there is a sub) when it is their turn to serve.

d) Each server only serves once, when it is their turn in the service rotation

No Specialization (players must rotate to play every position)

Equal playing time- Substitutions will rotate in and out at the serving position (if there is a sub)

50% of services end up either as an ace or a dead ball. By increasing the amount of touches each player gets, it encourages more rallies and a better-quality game for youth players to use skills in a game setting.

There is no need to sign up with other players on a pre-made team, however, feel free to invite friends to join. Players will practice together for the first 30 mins of each practice and then break up to play games. We will also create new teams often to ensure players have the opportunity to play with different teammates.

We can’t wait for this league, and all the fun players will have - See you there Jan 10th!!!

League “Highlights”:

  • 30-40 mins of skills practice followed by smaller sided game play 2 v 2, 3 v 3 or 4 v 4.

  • Beyond Ball Jersey

  • ALL skills practices & games at our indoor facility

  • Teams can be divided up into 2 players, 3 players, or 4 players for game play.

Game Format for 3rd-7th grade co-ed division:

1) No number of compulsory passes before directing the ball over the net required, but three touches are encouraged.

2) All contacts are volleyball skills

Rally ball (3 ball sequence) on pickleball court for all sets.

  • First set 4 v 4 rally scoring to 21

  • Second set 4 v 4 rally scoring to 21

  • Third set 4 v 4 rally scoring to 15

Best of 3 sets. Regardless of a team winning the first two sets, we will still play the third set (for fun) if time allows. (45 min time allowance)

Net Height: 6 feet, 6 inches for 3rd/4th grade & 7 feet for 5th-7th grade.

Why do we play smaller sided volleyball? (2 v 2, 3 v 3, 4 v 4)

Kids learn by doing, not by watching! Smaller sided games teach kids to move and learn the whole game, all the fundamental skills included at a much faster rate than the 6 on 6 game. We find that kids are also more engaged in the game because they touch the ball almost every play, giving them more opportunities to get better.

For those who don’t understand the importance of smaller sided games in youth sports, and how it can help create a better athlete, we try to break it down here:

When we talk about being an elite volleyball player, or an elite athlete in general, most people focus on what is measurable, for instance, “talent" and “skill”, however, the importance of one’s instincts in sports should not be overlooked. Volleyball instincts involve reading the game and then anticipating what will happen next. At a young age this starts with a passion for the sport and being curious and creative enough to try new things. Lastly, it is extremely important that young players are able to make mistakes and be able to self-correct to find success. We love our smaller sided leagues, especially with the triple ball format because kids can develop volleyball instincts much quicker. Instead of waiting for the ball to come to them in their “designated position” and performing their “designated skill”, they have the freedom to play, move, and learn for themselves. This freedom is definitely lost in today’s very structured world of youth sports.

**Parent / Guardian of all participants must complete an online waiver located here (if you’ve already completed a waiver for another one of our programs, please disregard!):

Assumption of Risk Waiver Form
